چکیده
Irrigation with electric pumps is cheaper than diesel in West Bengal where electricity and are unsubsidised, pump owners typically irrigate their winter rice crop often sell water to farmers who do not own pumps. Using purposefully selected primary data, we examine whether electric-pump have greater access production during the monsoon seasons compared diesel-pump buyers. We also pump-owners provide irrigation services through sales. find that ownership increased agricultural outputs both at extensive intensive margins seasons. The number of clients served by was those owners, but there only a small difference total irrigated areas, suggesting smaller land holdings. evidence indicates an environment inadequate has been one factors constraining agriculture, potential support growth generate pro-poor side effects.

Do ponds cause arsenic-pollution of groundwater in the Bengal basin? An answer from West Bengal.
We report time-series data collected over two years for delta18O, delta2H, and Ca, Mg, K, and Cl, concentrations for 10 ponds in, and upflow of, an As-polluted region of southern West Bengal. We compare the compositions of As-polluted groundwaters from wells with the compositions of waters in ponds upflow, and within the range of influence, of the wells. Conservative tracers (delta18O, delta2H,...

The authors showed that the level of lymphocytes with micronuclei in control (unexposed) persons was extremely low (1.66%). For example, in some European nations it is between 7% and 18% (2-7), and the least is in Turkish subjects—2.8% (8). According to t...
